Client: StoryCorps - Collaborated with Echobind LLC
Role: UX/UI Designer
Overview: As a UX/UI Designer, I led the design and development of an engaging digital platform for StoryCorps, which aims to enhance storytelling experiences and connect communities. This project focused on creating an intuitive interface that encourages users to share and preserve their stories while ensuring a seamless user experience across devices.
Target Audience: StoryCorps user
Timeline: 6weeks
Software: Figma, AI, and Notion

Process & Collaboration

Objectives

  • Enhance User Engagement: Design an intuitive interface that promotes user interaction and encourages storytelling.

  • Improve Accessibility: Ensure the platform is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.

  • Streamline User Journey: Simplify the process of recording, editing, and sharing stories to enhance user satisfaction.

Needs

1. Advanced UX/UI design on “Recording”, navigation, and IA.
2. Combine and reconnect the disconnected product ecosystem back together.
3. Provide an easy and simple pathfinder for the ecosystem.
4. Hierarchy in typography, design contrast, color balance, and separate functionality for registered/unregistered users.
5. Legibility, visible UI pattern, usage of illustration, and bringing website content to keep the product connected.

Process

Research & Discovery > Wireframing > Visual Design > Development Collaboration

Original Product

  • Analyzing user behavior and preferences.

  • Identifying accessibility challenges.

  • Gathering insights to inform design decisions.

Wireframing

Developed wireframes to outline the structure and flow of the platform. I created interactive prototypes to visualize user interactions and gather feedback from stakeholders. Key activities included:

  • Iterative design sessions to refine user flows.

  • Usability testing to validate design concepts and make necessary adjustments.

Visual Design

Crafted a visually appealing design that reflects StoryCorps' mission and values. This phase focused on:

  • Establishing a cohesive visual identity.

  • Ensuring a responsive design for optimal user experience across devices.

  • Utilizing typography, color schemes, and imagery that resonate with users.

Product Ecosystem

High-Fidelity

Based on the low fidelity, I reduced the UI steps in the recording process to enhance speed and get to the point while recording. Also, removing UI steps in the user stories filter, and UX of the error message. in the sign-up form.

Development Collaboration

Collaborated closely with developers to ensure the successful implementation of design specifications. This involved:

  • Conducting design handoff sessions.

  • Participating in Agile sprints to align design and development efforts.

  • Providing ongoing support during the development phase to address any design-related questions or challenges.

Results

  • Launched the StoryCorps platform with a user-centered design that facilitated storytelling and community connection.

  • Enhanced user feedback mechanisms, leading to valuable insights for future iterations of the platform.

  • Improved accessibility features, ensuring a more inclusive experience for all users.

  • Fostered collaboration between design and development teams, leading to a smoother implementation process and a more cohesive final product.
